Venezuelan-born painter and tattoo artist Jefferson Soto pops up at Time Out Market for the month of August. Visit his temporary parlor, open Thursday through Saturday, and get that summer tat you’ve been dreaming about. You’ll also be able to shop a selection of Soto’s paintings and various merchandise emblazoned with his artwork. Tattoos start at $40 and appointments are first-come, first-served but you shouldn’t worry about a delay—there’s nothing like having a space with multiple bars and eateries as your waiting room.

After the wild and crazy ride that was 2020, we’ve never been happier to welcome back Miami Spice. Organized by the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (GMCVB), the two-month prix-fixe dining program returns for its 20th year, offering discounted, three-course menus at select restaurants throughout Miami-Dade. This year, there are nearly 140 participating spots offering lunch/brunch and dinner for $28 and $42, respectively.

Superblue Miami, the long-awaited immersive art experience dedicated to the production of experiential mediums, is now open. Under construction for nearly two years, the Allappattah institution debuts with an inaugural program titled “Every Wall Is a Door,” which features a new immersive environment by stage designer Es Devlin, a transcendent digital experience by Japanese art collective teamLab and an extrasensory light-based work by American artist James Turrell. Meadow, a kinetic installation by Amsterdam-based artist studio DRIFT, is also on view in Superblue’s main lobby area.

This immersive exhibition opens at the Olympia Theater with more than 300 of Vincent Van Gogh’s greatest works presented as floor-to-ceiling digital projections. In addition to the main gallery highlighting paintings and sketches, the exhibit presents a drawing studio and spaces dedicated to learning about the artist’s life, works and techniques. “Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience” also includes a virtual-reality experience that takes viewers on a 10-minute journey of a day in the life of the artist, such as a look at the moments that inspired seminal works like Starry Night. Fortunately, the part where Vincent van Gogh cuts off his left ear was not included in this brief retrospective.

Curious prehistoric lovers, you’re in for a treat. Organized by New York’s American Museum of Natural History, Frost Science presents an immersive exhibition of the largest flying animals that ever lived, the pterosaur. Using findings from paleontological research, the exhibit presents a combination of life-size models and engaging interactive opportunities to bring these ancient animals to life. What did it feel to roam the Earth at that size 150 million years ago? Find out using your body to pilot a pterosaur over a prehistoric landscape in a virtual flight lab. How big were they exactly? Glimpse the many fossils for a peek at their size.

What’s your first memory of Coconut Grove? Is it the arts festival? The theater and parks on Main Highway? It’s likely that your recollections of Miami’s oldest neighborhood exceed just one moment—it’s been around that long. In this latest exhibition, Frost Art Museum FIU tracks the Grove’s incredible transformation and its lasting reputation as a wellspring of creativity. Dozens of photographs help paint a picture of a thriving artistic community, including the Miami Black Arts Workshops in historic Bahamian Coconut Grove of the ’60s as well as future creative endeavors, like the beloved King Mango Strut Parade (founded in 1982). Prepare to leave the exhibit with an entirely new perspective on the well-trodden neighborhood.
